Pune Police Bust Ganja Peddler, Seize 2kg Contraband in Kondhwa Raid

Pune : In a successful operation, the Kondhwa police arrested a notorious drug peddler and confiscated 2 kg of ganja during a raid in the Kondhwa area on February 23. The accused, identified as Rajesh Ramesh Pavle, 29, a resident of Santosh Nagar, Katraj, is a history-sheeter with an extensive criminal record. The police, acting on a tip-off, apprehended Pavle while he was selling the banned substance, seizing a significant quantity of contraband with a street value of Rs 40,500.

The police team, led by Assistant Inspector Dinesh Patil and guided by Senior Police Inspector Santosh Sonawane of Kondhwa police, intercepted the suspect on a two-wheeler near the Khadi Machine intersection in Kondhwa. The arrest was made after a body search revealed a small quantity of marijuana hidden under Pavle’s clothes, and a subsequent search of his bike uncovered more contraband in the trunk. In total, 1.892 kg of ganja was seized.

A case has been registered against Pavle under sections 8 (c) and 20(b)(ii) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. During interrogation, Pavle confessed that the illegal substance was intended for sale and not for personal consumption. The police’s swift action was based on confidential information, and the successful operation highlights their commitment to curbing drug-related activities in the region.

Assistant Inspector Dinesh Patil commended the team’s efforts, stating, “When stopped for questioning, Pavle was behaving suspiciously. The search revealed the illegal substance that was concealed in a bag. The arrested peddler admitted that the contraband was going to be sold to an addict and not for his consumption.”
