Pune: Chaos ensued on the streets of A.D. Camp Chowk on Sunday evening as a heated altercation between two groups spiralled into a violent clash, leaving several injured and resulting in the arrest of seven individuals by the Samarth police.
The confrontation, which escalated into a stone-pelting frenzy, originated from a contentious overtaking of a bike incident that quickly escalated into a physical altercation. According to police reports, Aditya Sadanand Gaikwad of Rajewadi, Pune, allegedly made a rash manoeuvre by cutting off Ayaan Syed’s vehicle, sparking immediate tensions.
Rihan Jilani Syed, a 22-year-old resident of Bhawani Peth, filed a complaint with the Samarth Police Station, alleging that Aditya Sadanand Gaikwad, along with his accomplice Swapnil Gaikwad, incited violence by overtaking recklessly and hurling abuses. The altercation intensified when Swapnil Gaikwad reportedly assaulted Rihan’s father with a stick, resulting in injuries. Additionally, Rachit Ravi Bodh, along with his father Ravi Bodh and two unidentified individuals, allegedly inflicted further harm by hurling stones, leaving Ayaan Syed injured.
In a retaliatory move, Aditya Sadanand Gaikwad lodged a counter-complaint, accusing Rihan Syed, Ayaan Syed, Jilani Syed, Aftab Inamdar, and Mohsin Patel of assault and various other offenses. Both parties have been charged under sections of the Maharashtra Police Act, including IPC 326, 324, 323, 504, 506, 143, 147, and 149.
Police investigations reveal that the involved parties were acquainted with each other prior to the incident. The altercation allegedly erupted over disputes regarding the overtaking manoeuvre, escalating into a physical confrontation involving verbal abuse and stone-throwing.
Currently, the Samarth police are conducting further investigations into the matter to ascertain the sequence of events and bring clarity to the conflicting claims made by both parties.
