PUNE: Many incidents of cheating are being reported from Pune. Sometimes, people are being cheated by asking them to like videos on YouTube and on the other hand some students are being cheated by providing them hostel accommodation. Fifty people from Solapur district have been duped under the guise of organising a Char Dham yatra. A businessman was duped on the pretext of providing a franchisee. An FIR has been registered in this ₹1 crore cheating case.
What is the fraud about?
The 50 over cricket world cup is going to be held soon. The cheating was carried out on the pretext of providing the franchisee of an international quality pizza restaurant at Pune, Mumbai and Pune airport. A 35-year-old man from Pune has a business of manufacturing engineering components. He wanted to invest money in food and hospital industry. He was searching for a suitable opportunity. He visited the website of a pizza chain. He had submitted a form through the website in June. He received a call on June 9 from the company. The caller claimed to be a representative of the company.
How it started?
On June 21, he received a letter asking him to submit some documents and signing a contract. Initially, ₹2.65 lakh wad demanded. Later, ₹6 lakh was sought for NOC and ₹7.5 lakh for purchasing a machine. Accordingly, the businessman deposited the money in the bank accounts as told by the company’s representative. Later, ₹12 lakh was demanded for completing the agreement and ₹20 lakh for interior decoration. A sum of ₹1 crore was taken from him throughout the month for various reasons. He representative started asking for more money and he told the businessman to deposit the money in his personal account.
The businessman gave ₹1 crore to secure the franchisee of the pizza chain. He later realised that he was being cheated and approached the Pimpri Chinchwad police. The police have registered an FIR in the case.
