Pune: Air Asia Assistant Manager Faces Charges for Negligence Resulting in Airline Staffer’s Death

An assistant manager of Air Asia Airlines has been booked by the Pune City Police for allegedly causing the death of an airline staffer due to negligence. The incident occurred in April of this year when the airline employee fell from a ladder at Pune Airport. The deceased’s wife filed a complaint at Vimantal Police Station, prompting the police to take action.

The tragedy unfolded on April 13, 2023, when Vivian Anthony Dominic (33), a security officer employed by Air Asia, tragically fell from a ladder used by passengers to board and disembark from flights at Pune Airport. Initially, the city police registered a case of accidental death. However, following a complaint lodged by the deceased’s wife, an FIR has now been registered under section 304(a) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and the assistant manager, S Ajay Hariprasad, has been named as the accused.

In her complaint, the widow alleges that the assistant manager failed to provide the necessary safety equipment for her husband, which ultimately led to his fatal fall from the ladder. She claims that the workers were not provided with safety belts, helmets, or safety jackets. Additionally, she alleges that the accused did not provide her with detailed information about the incident when she went to collect her husband’s body from a hospital in Pune.

After completing the final rites and rituals in Tamil Nadu, the complainant approached the city police to file an FIR in the matter. The police have registered a case based on her complaint and are currently investigating the incident further.

In response to the tragic event, Air Asia released a statement expressing their regret over the loss of their employee’s life and emphasizing their commitment to providing support to the family. The airline assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted in collaboration with the authorities to determine the cause of the incident and address any shortcomings. The safety and well-being of their guests and employees remain Air Asia’s top priority in all their operations.
