PUNE: Action has been taken under MCOCA against a gang of criminals for creating terror in Sahakar Nagar area by vandalising vehicles. The criminals had created terror in Taljai Vasahat area of Sahakar Nagar on June 19 by vandalising vehicles.
The accused have been identified as Digvijay alias Papulya Tukaram Waghmare (20), a resident of Warje, Kamal Chakrabahaddur Sah (19), a resident of Dhankawadi, Bhagwan Dhaklu Kharat (20), a resident of Karve Nagar, Lingappa alias Nitin Suresh Gadde (20) and Devidas Basavraj Koli (19), both residents of Karve Nagar. Two minors have been apprehended and three accused are absconding. The accused had threatened the locals by brandishing sharp weapons. Waghmare is the gang leader and had lured the minors by promising money, a probe had revealed.
Senior PI of Sahakar Nagar police station Surendra Malale, PI of Crime Branch Sandip Deshmane had prepared a proposal of taking action against Waghmare and his accomplices under MCOCA.
The proposal was checked by Addl CP Pravinkumar Patil and DCP Smartana Patil. Later, CP Ritesh Kumar issued the orders about taking action against Waghmare and his accomplices under MCOCA.
