Police Bust Prostitution Racket in Jalgaon, Rescue 60 Women, Apprehend 11 Brokers

In a significant crackdown, law enforcement authorities in Jalgaon, North Maharashtra, have uncovered a large-scale prostitution racket, rescuing 60 women and apprehending 11 brokers involved in the illicit trade.

The operation, reminiscent of a notorious sex scandal in 1994, where hundreds of women fell victim to exploitation by influential figures, underscores the persistent challenges in combating human trafficking and sexual exploitation.

Led by Chopda sub-divisional police officer Kunal Sonwane, along with city police inspector Madhukar Savle and rural police station police inspector Kaveri Kamalakar, the raid unfolded on Wednesday evening (20th) behind the municipality in Chopda.

The rescue mission revealed a distressing reality, with 60 women, including young individuals from various regions, found ensnared in the clutches of ten middle-aged women operating the brothel. Among the victims were women from West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and even Nepal, highlighting the transnational nature of the illicit trade.

Efforts are now underway to initiate legal proceedings against the 11 individuals implicated in running the illegal establishment, known locally as “Kuntankhana.” The swift response by law enforcement agencies has garnered praise from the local community, signaling a collective commitment to combating such nefarious activities.

The successful operation, which involved the coordinated efforts of six police personnel, underscores the importance of proactive measures in identifying and dismantling criminal networks engaged in human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
