Maha: 13 killed, 20 injured as container rams into vehicles

Dhule, July 4 (UNI): At least 13 people were killed and 20 others sustained injuries on Tuesday when a container truck hit four vehicles and then rammed into a hotel on a highway in Maharashtra’s Dhule district, police said.

According to the police official, the ghastly mishap took place at around 10.45 am near Palasner village on Mumbai-Agra Highway.

The official said the driver lost control over the vehicle after apparently a brake failure, with the accident spot being on a steep slope near the Satpuda mountain range at the Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh border.

The container, which was heading towards Dhule carrying gravel from Madhya Pradesh, hit two motorcycles, a car and another container from the rear side

It later rammed into a hotel near a bus stop on the highway and overturned, leaving 13 people dead and 20 others injured, the official said.

The condition of some of the injured is serious and the toll may increase.

The victims included some of those waiting at a bus stop, the official said.

After being alerted, the police rushed to the spot. The injured were take to hospitals in Shirpur and Dhule, he added .
