Hardware Engineer Nabbed for Stealing Laptops Worth ₹1.40 Lakh in Pune

In a swift operation, the cyber unit of Shivajinagar police apprehended a 39-year-old hardware engineer, Sameer Somnath Thorat, for allegedly stealing four laptops and additional hardware material valued at ₹1.40 lakh from a private shop in Pune.

Thorat, who worked at a laptop repair shop between September 2023 and January 2024, was identified as the prime suspect in the theft. The incident occurred during the owner’s absence when he was in Dubai. The accused allegedly seized the opportunity, making off with the laptops and other hardware items before going into hiding.

Upon the owner’s return and discovery of the theft, a police complaint was promptly filed against Thorat. The Shivajinagar police, leveraging technical analysis, tracked the suspect’s movements between Ahmednagar and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar. They successfully set a trap and arrested him.

A case has been registered at the Shivajinagar police station under sections 420 and 408 of the Indian Penal Code, reflecting the severity of the theft and fraudulent actions.
