In yet another alarming incident of violence, gunshots rang out in Pune’s Katraj area following a dispute over a cricket match, marking the third such shooting incident in the city within a week. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries in the gunfire, which occurred on Wednesday evening in the jurisdiction of the Bharti Vidyapeeth police station.
According to reports, tensions escalated between two groups residing in the Katraj locality during a cricket match held on Tuesday. The dispute over the game led to a confrontation between the youths of both groups, culminating in gunfire the following day. Despite the intensity of the confrontation, no casualties were reported.
Police have initiated the process of filing a case in connection with the incident. It was revealed that one of the groups involved in the dispute included a convicted felon. The altercation reignited during the meeting convened to resolve the cricket-related dispute, leading to the firing.
During the altercation, a member of one group brandished a gun and fired a shot at a member of the opposing group, fortunately missing the target. The sound of gunfire prompted panic in the area, with residents rushing to safety. Authorities have detained several individuals in connection with the incident.
This incident comes shortly after a fatal shooting occurred at a hotel in Pune’s Indapur area, where Avinash Dhanve was shot dead due to prior animosity. The swift arrest of the suspects within 24 hours by the Pune Rural Police underscores the authorities’ commitment to tackling such crimes. An investigation into the incident is underway, with Avinash Dhanve’s wife filing a police complaint, resulting in the registration of a case against ten individuals.
