In a recent development, the Kondhwa police have arrested Usman Attar, the director of Taqwa Islamic Maktab and School, for allegedly running the institute without the required government permissions. The arrest follows a complaint filed by Shankar Mandve, a Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) education department officer, in September 2023.

The complaint prompted the police to take action, leading to the booking of Attar, along with another official and the school principal, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for cheating), and 34 (acts done by several persons for furtherance of common intention).

Santosh Sonawane, the incharge of Kondhwa Police Station, stated, “School director Attar has been arrested on charges of running the illegal school.” The arrest comes as a result of an investigation into the unauthorized operation of the educational institution.

According to the filed FIR, the accused allegedly admitted 18 students from Classes 1 to 8 without obtaining the necessary approvals from government bodies. The complaint highlighted that the school was not registered on the government’s Saral portal, leading to the non-generation of Saral IDs for enrolled students. This lack of documentation caused difficulties for students seeking admission to other schools.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the police are actively pursuing the apprehension of the other accused involved in the operation of the unapproved school.
