Extortion Case Unveiled: Zomato Delivery Boy Arrested in Pune for Demanding Rs 10 Lakh Ransom

Pune: The Pune Police Crime Branch Unit 2 has arrested a man for demanding a ransom of Rs 10 lakh from a businessman by sticking a note on his car’s windshield outside a restaurant in Koregaon Park. The accused has been held from his native Umbare in Akluj taluka of Solapur district.

The accused, Shrinath Yalappa Shedge (25) works as a Zomato delivery boy.

According to the police, the businessman from Baramati was eating in a restaurant in Koregaon Park. As he came out of the restaurant, he saw an envelope stuck on his car’s windshield. In a note inside the envelope, he was threatened that he and his family members would be killed, if he did not pay Rs 10 lakh. Then the accused called him up and told him to put the money in a tiffin and hand it over to him at Koregaon Park.

The Crime Branch Unit 2 launched a parallel investigation of the case. Policemen Gajanan Sonune and Pushpendra Chavan came to know that the accused was in Akluj. Thus, a police team detained Shedge with the help of the local police. He confessed to have committed the crime to pay a loan. He was handed over to the Koregaon Police for further investigation.

The action was taken under the guidance of Commissioner of Police (CP) Retesh Kumaarr, Jt CP Sandeep Karnik, Addl CP Ramnath Pokale, DCP Amol Zende, ACP Sunil Tambe and Senior PI Nandkumar Bidwai. A team comprising PSI Nitin Kamble, police personnel Ujjawal Mokashi, Amol Sarde, Gajanan Sonune, Pushpendra Chavan, Uttam Taru, Sadhana Tamhane, Nikhil Jadhav, Mohsin Shaikh, Naganath Rakh took the action.
