Extortion Case Shocks Alandi: Woman Threatened Over Loan Repayment

A disturbing case of extortion has rattled the serene village of Alandi, situated under the jurisdiction of Dighi police station. On March 6, at approximately 3 pm, a woman faced threats from a man accusing her of defaulting on a loan repayment. The perpetrator, identified as Manu Swami Rogerio alias Michael, allegedly demanded five lakh rupees from the victim to prevent the circulation of morphed images tarnishing her reputation. The victim’s courageous decision to report the incident promptly led to the registration of an extortion case at Dighi Police Station on Thursday, March 15.

Michael, a resident of Byculla, Mumbai, used two different mobile numbers to harass the victim and her family. He resorted to making distressing calls to the victim’s relatives, falsely alleging financial insolvency on the part of the victim and her brother, claiming they had borrowed money and failed to repay it.

The situation escalated when Michael issued an ultimatum, demanding the hefty sum from the victim by March 20. He threatened to manipulate and circulate her photos on social media and among her acquaintances if his demands were not met. Despite being pressed for loan details by the victim’s brother, Michael evaded providing any substantial information, exacerbating the atmosphere of fear and uncertainty.

In a display of resilience, the victim refused to yield to coercion and promptly alerted the authorities about the extortion attempt. Police Sub-Inspector Ranware is spearheading the investigation into this distressing incident. Efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrator and ensure the safety and security of the victim and her family.
