Crackdown on Counterfeit: Fake Household Items Worth ₹15 Lakh Seized, Three Arrested

In a significant crackdown on counterfeit goods, the Pimpri-Chinchwad police apprehended three individuals and confiscated fake household products worth ₹15.15 lakh. The seized items included toilet cleaners, glass and household cleaners, fabric whiteners, and mosquito repellent liquids. The accused, identified as Bhavesh Laxman Patel, Anwar Bhachubhai Khalifa, and Manji Hari Bhasdiya, hailing from Kamothe, were involved in the illegal manufacturing and distribution of these products.

The operation unfolded following a tip-off, prompting authorities to conduct raids in MIDC Bhosari and Thane areas. During the raid, law enforcement officers uncovered a significant stash of counterfeit goods, shedding light on an elaborate network of production and distribution.

According to statements from officials, Bhavesh Patel and Anwar Khalifa were allegedly responsible for the storage and sale of counterfeit products, utilizing various brand names to deceive consumers. Meanwhile, Manji Hari Bhasdiya operated a clandestine production unit in Thane, supplying the counterfeit household items to the market regularly.

DCP Sandeep Doiphode emphasized the ongoing investigation into the manufacturing process and the extent of distribution across other cities. The police are actively pursuing leads to dismantle the entire network involved in this illegal trade.

Senior Police Inspector Balkrushna Sawant highlighted the meticulous process involved in identifying and verifying the authenticity of the seized products. Experts have been engaged to ascertain the legitimacy of the items, ensuring that consumers are protected from fraudulent activities.

The accused individuals allegedly employed tactics such as repackaging genuine products with counterfeit stickers and selling them at reduced prices to supermarkets and local stores through a network of distributors.

A case has been registered at the MIDC Bhosari police station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Copyright Act, reflecting the gravity of the offenses committed.

This successful operation serves as a stern warning against the proliferation of counterfeit goods and reaffirms the commitment of law enforcement agencies to uphold consumer rights and combat illegal activities in the market.
