Panel Discussion: World Day of Social Justice – Legal Awareness Aid and Justice for Rural Communities in India

In a recent panel discussion hosted by Rest The Case on the occasion of the World Day of Social Justice, legal experts Adv. Taranjit Singh, Adv. Siddhanth Deshpande, and Adv. Kumar Shivang delved into the critical issues surrounding legal awareness, aid, and justice for rural communities in India.

The discussion commenced with a spotlight on the profound financial challenges faced by people in rural India. The panelists shed light on how government initiatives and judicial support play a crucial role in addressing these challenges at a broader level.

Emphasizing the effectiveness of various rural courts, the legal experts highlighted existing rules and laws designed to provide legal aid to rural communities. However, they pointed out a significant gap in the implementation of these measures. Villagers often find themselves burdened with high expenses when seeking legal assistance for disputes related to land, succession, caste, and other issues.

The discussion also tackled prevalent stereotypes, with a common perception among rural communities that the legal system favors the wealthy. The panelists stressed the importance of dispelling such stereotypes and promoting equal access to justice for all.

Addressing the issue of meager fees for legal cases, the experts explored ways in which the legal community could contribute to the betterment of underprivileged rural communities. They delved into the concept of pro-bono cases and the role they play in ensuring justice reaches those who need it the most.

The panelists concluded by examining existing government policies aimed at providing free legal aid to rural communities in India. Additionally, they discussed the potential of technology in facilitating free and effective legal assistance to the rural populace.

Reflecting on the panel discussion, Adv. Taranjit Singh expressed, “It was a great experience to sit on the panel today, exploring the less talked about issue of legal awareness in rural India. I hope this is a significant step towards contributing to a larger cause.”

Adv. Siddhanth Deshpande added, “It was a very nice experience, and I gained some good insights from my fellow panelists. Nice initiative by Rest The Case, covering this crucial but often overlooked topic.”

CEO Ms. Shreya Sharma shared her thoughts, stating, “Free Legal Aid for Rural Communities is an issue that is often overlooked. With this panel discussion, we aimed to raise awareness about the challenges faced by rural communities and how they can be addressed. It was indeed an insightful discussion that deserved attention.”
