The Pune division of Central Railway has achieved an impressive feat by generating substantial revenue through the sale of scrap materials over the last five months. This initiative, undertaken as part of the railway’s ‘Zero Scrap Mission,’ has contributed significantly to the division’s finances.
Remarkable Earnings
Officials have reported that between April and August, the Pune division earned a staggering Rs 16.8 Crore from the sale of scrap materials. This includes scrap items sourced from various workshops and departments within the division. In accordance with policy, railways opt to sell scrap materials on-site, eliminating the need for transportation and associated expenses. Successful bidders in the online auction process are responsible for collecting the materials directly from the site.
Sources of Scrap
Within Pune city, scrap materials are sourced from locations such as the Ghorpadi Coaching Center and Diesel Shed. The materials offered for sale encompass a wide range, including old track components, batteries, copper, and parts from coaches. Notably, the Central Railway previously disclosed the revenue generated from scrap sales across different divisions.
Impressive Total Earnings
For the period from April to August this year, the Central Railway has accumulated a substantial sum of Rs 150.81 Crore through scrap material sales. This accomplishment highlights the railway’s commitment to resource optimization and fiscal sustainability.
