Young Crusader: 12-Year-Old Leads Protest Against Garbage Depot Near School

In a remarkable display of courage and civic responsibility, 12-year-old Ankita Sawant, a 7th-grade student at Vikas Vidyalaya in Kunjirwadi, Haveli tehsil, has taken it upon herself to lead a protest against the garbage depot situated near her school. Recognizing the potential health hazards posed by the depot, Ankita is calling for immediate action to relocate it and ensure a safer environment for students and residents alike.

Ankita initiated the protest on a Friday morning, positioning herself in front of Kunjirwadi Grampanchyat to draw attention to the pressing issue. Her solo demonstration has not only garnered support from fellow students but has also inspired teachers and local residents to rally behind her cause.

The adverse effects of the garbage depot on the health of residents and students are a matter of concern, with potential risks of vector-borne and foodborne diseases. Ankita, representing the student body, stressed the importance of maintaining a clean environment and urged the Gram Panchayat authorities to expedite the relocation of the depot away from the school premises.

Students have voiced their dissatisfaction with the unpleasant odor emanating from the garbage, particularly during lunchtime, making it challenging for many to consume their meals. Additionally, the accumulation of garbage provides a breeding ground for mosquitoes, heightening concerns about vector-borne diseases.
