Winter’s Farewell: Pune Witnesses Temperature Drop to 13 Degrees as Chill Sets In

Pune News : Pune experienced a notable dip in temperatures as the mercury dropped to 13 degrees Celsius in Shivajinagar on Monday, March 4. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts further cooling in the coming 2-3 days, with the likelihood of single-digit temperatures.

Over the past 24 hours, the temperature has decreased by 3 degrees, providing respite from the scorching heat the city has endured for the last 5 to 6 days. The shift in weather is attributed to clear skies and cool northerly winds that have swept through Pune.

Anomalies in weather conditions, including the impact of a western disturbance moving from west to east and local weather instability due to opposite wind interaction, contributed to the recent fluctuations. Within 24 hours, the city’s minimum temperature rose by 8 degrees, reaching 20 degrees on March 20.

The gradual decrease in minimum temperature began on March 3 when Pune recorded 16 degrees Celsius. Subsequently, it further dropped by three degrees within the next 24 hours, settling at 13 degrees. Shivajinagar’s minimum temperature was reported to be 1 degree below normal levels.

Discussing the current weather conditions, Anupam Kashyapi, the head of the Weather Forecasting Division at IMD Pune, stated, “With a clear sky and the absence of strong weather systems, Pune is witnessing a decrease in minimum temperature. This trend is expected to continue for the next 2-3 days, with a projected decrease of 4-5 degrees. The possibility of single-digit temperatures cannot be ruled out.”

Certain areas in Pune district have already recorded minimum temperatures as low as 10 degrees Celsius. IMD data indicates that on Monday, Shirur and Lonavala reported temperatures of 10.7 and 10.9 degrees, respectively. Ambegaon (11.3), Haveli (11.5), Narayangaon (11.6), Malin (11.6), and NDA (11.9) in Pune district also experienced temperatures in the range of 11 degrees.

This sudden drop in temperature brings a welcome change to Pune’s weather, marking a departure from the recent heatwave conditions.
