Katraj, 19th October 2023: The residents of Katraj are facing a water crisis right in the midst of the festive fervor of Navratri. A technical glitch in a pump at the pumping station near Rajiv Gandhi Zoo has caused a two-day disruption in water supply. While local authorities are working tirelessly to effect repairs, the situation has already caused significant distress to the local population.
The malfunction has severely impacted multiple residential areas, including Sukhsagar Nagar Part 1, Part 2 Rajas Society, Shivashambhonagar Galli No. 1, 2, 3, Sainagar, Shelarmala, Sukhda Varda Complex, Chaitrangan, Sukhnivas, Hami Park, Ideal Park, and Pawan Park.
Compounded by a prior annoyance of continuous low-pressure water supply, residents are now grappling with a complete water cut. The unfortunate timing of this utility failure during the ongoing Navratri celebrations has only amplified frustrations. Citizens have expressed their dissatisfaction with the absence of prior notice, which might have enabled them to make alternative arrangements.
Nitin Khude, Deputy Engineer of the Water Supply Department, acknowledged the issue, remarking, “The water supply was disrupted due to pump failure. We have expedited the repair process with the electrical department and are committed to restoring water supply as soon as possible.”
What has aggravated the situation further is the lack of effective communication from the authorities. Numerous attempts to contact the water release staff went unanswered, as phones remained switched off, leaving citizens in a state of uncertainty.
