Pune, 18th October 2023: History comes alive as the shooting of ‘Veer Savarkar – Secret Files,’ the very first Hindi web series to narrate the life and struggles of the revered freedom fighter, Veer Savarkar, commenced at Raj Wada in Bhor on the auspicious day of Ghatasthapana.
Present at the momentous occasion were prominent figures such as Yogesh Soman, the director and writer of the series; Dr. Anirban Sarkar, producer and chairman of Deccan Group of companies; Ajay Kamble, director of Deccan A V Media; Sachi Gadhave, production head; Prasad Bhende, the cinematographer; Siddharth Tatuskar, production designer; and Mahesh Kore, the art director.
Yogesh Soman expressed, “Veer Savarkar dedicated not only his life but his entire family’s existence to the cause of our nation’s freedom. Regrettably, his life story remains obscured from public knowledge. We firmly believe that it is high time to bring his remarkable contributions to the forefront. Our aim is not to address his critics but to present Veer Savarkar’s persona as faithfully as history permits.”
“Spanning nearly a century, Savarkar’s life was a testament to his unyielding dedication. Our endeavor is to motivate and dispel the misconceptions perpetuated for political and social reasons. Savarkar was guided by no mentor except Shivaji Maharaj; he was a natural leader. ‘Veer Savarkar – Secret Files’ is our effort to unveil the lesser-known aspects of Savarkar’s life,” added Soman.
He further emphasized that while there have been dramas and films centered on Savarkar, this web series will be the first of its kind. The series will comprise four seasons, with the first season encapsulating the period from Savarkar’s birth in 1883 to his dramatic escape from a steamship at the port of Marseilles.
Dr. Anirban Sarkar affirmed, “Savarkar was a revolutionary by birth, and it is essential to present his authentic character to society. Many remain oblivious to his real contributions to the freedom struggle and the sacrifices he made. This web series intends to shed light on his struggles and contributions. We aspire to facilitate a deeper understanding of Savarkar. Creating a web series dedicated to his life has long been a dream of mine, and this project is about to fulfill that dream.”
