Opposition to Monorail in Kothrud and River Front Development Project Echoes Citizen Concerns
Pune’s urban development plans face scrutiny as Rajya Sabha MP Vandana Chavan meets with newly appointed Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale. Chavan has highlighted two critical issues concerning the proposed monorail project in Kothrud’s Late Tatyasaheb Thorat Garden and the River Front Development (RFD) projects.
During her meeting with PMC Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale, Vandana Chavan voiced her concerns, stating, “There are several issues which I would like to discuss. I wish to bring to your notice two important issues which need urgent attention and action.”

Chavan strongly opposes the installation of a monorail in Thorat Udyan, Kothrud. She emphasizes that Thorat Udyan, one of the oldest and largest green spaces in the area, serves as a vital lung for the locality. The proposed monorail project threatens to disrupt the tranquility and greenery of the garden, leading to increased congestion, noise, and disturbance. Citizen objections against the project underscore the need to preserve green spaces and uphold community voices.
- Concerns Over River Front Development:
Chavan highlights concerns raised by experts, voluntary organizations, and citizens regarding the River Front Development (RFD) projects. Many developments appear to disregard government norms, leading to legal interventions and court-issued stays. Chavan advocates for dialogue to address these concerns and ensure the smooth progress of the RFD project.
