Uruli Devachi and Fursungi: State government order creates confusion

Pune PMC On Potholes

PUNE: The state government has issued instructions to the PMC that the development works in Uruli Devachi and Phursungi villages should continue and the works should be sanctioned by the civic body and PMRDA. Because of these instructions, there is a possibility that the villages may remain in the limits of the PMC.

Since the levying of property tax has been carried out in a faulty manner in Fursungi and Uruli Devachi, there is a huge pendency of lakhs of rupees. The residents of the villages have complained against this. Former Shiv Sena MLA Vijay Shivtare had taken the lead in excluding these villages from civic limits. Hence, CM Eknath Shinde had taken a decision to exclude these villages from PMC limits and form a municipal council of these two villages. A petition had been filed against this in the Bombay HC. The state government had clarified that it had issued a format notification and legal issues will be checked and a final decision will be taken.

Meanwhile, the PMC had continued provision of basic facilities with day-to-day cleanliness in these villages. However, the development works had been stopped. However, CM Shinde had told the PMC to continue the development works in these villages. A meeting was held in Mumbai a few days ago regarding this issue and the instructions about development works were issued in the meeting.

The state government had included 11 villages in the PMC in 2017. Two of the villages were Uruli Devachi and Fursungi. After the villages were included in PMC limits, the PMC has spent ₹250 crore in last five years. Funds of ₹42 crore would be spent on solid waste management projects in these two villages. The state government has sanctioned TP scheme of 371 hectares in both these villages.
