Urgent Evacuation: Ambegaon Budruk Faces Peril After Unauthorized Building Collapse

Pune’s Ambegaon Budruk area witnessed a harrowing incident on June 4th, as heavy rains triggered the collapse of the compound wall of an unauthorized building, plunging it into the parking lot of Nirman Viva Society. This calamity has forced the evacuation of Buildings B and C within the society, endangering the lives of 36 families residing there.

Unprecedented Disaster

The aftermath of the collapse revealed the precarious situation of two unauthorized buildings perched on the edge of Ambegaon Pathar, a 50-60 feet high elevation. The exposed columns of these structures now teeter on the brink of collapse, compelling authorities to take swift action to avert a potential catastrophe.

Looming Threat

Compounding the danger is the existence of other unauthorized constructions nearby, notably Mayuresh Park and Balaji Park, erected by Manoj Patil, a prominent builder. These structures, precariously perched on the mountain ridge of Ambegaon Plateau, pose a looming threat to Nirman Viva Society. With just a 10 to 15-foot gap separating them, any collapse could spell disaster for the residents of Nirman Viva.

Negligence Exposed

The negligence of developers, particularly Nirman Developers represented by Sule and Sandeep Maheshwari, has come under scrutiny. Constructing buildings near the mountain without securing the area with adequate walls has rendered the vicinity hazardous, putting lives at risk.

Cry for Action

Residents of Nirman Viva Society, like Pradip Wandhekar, have expressed frustration at the lack of decisive action from authorities. Despite the imminent peril posed by the unstable structures, the Pune Municipal Corporation’s response has been limited to advising evacuation. With the monsoon looming, the risk of further collapse looms large, demanding urgent intervention to safeguard lives and property.

Community at Risk

The safety and well-being of 36 families hang in the balance as Ambegaon Budruk grapples with this crisis. Immediate measures are imperative to mitigate the threat and ensure the security of residents in the face of impending danger.
