Upsets and Surprises: A Recap of Day Two at Dr. Nitu Mandke Trophy 2023

In a thrilling day of tennis action at the 13th Edition of the Om Dalvi Memorial Dr. Nitu Mandke Trophy All India Ranking U-18 Super Series Tennis Tournament 2023, Savi Panchal from Gujarat led a series of upsets that left spectators in awe. Organized by the Om Dalvi Memorial Trust under the auspices of the AITA and MSLTA, the tournament took place at the Om Dalvi Memorial Tennis School, Maharashtra Police Tennis Gymkhana (MT), Parihar Chowk, Aundh, Pune.

In an all-Gujarat battle, Savi Panchal created a buzz by knocking out the top seed, Hirva Rangani, in a hard-fought match that ended 5-7, 6-1, 6-4. This victory marked a turning point for Panchal, who proved her mettle on the court.

Panchal’s triumph was not the only upset of the day. In the girls’ singles second round, five other seeded players faced early exits. Unseeded Sahana Kamalakannan from Tamil Nadu toppled the second-seeded Abhilipsa Mallick of Maharashtra with a score of 6-3, 6-4. Sanchita Nagarkar snuffed out the hopes of the fourth-seeded Shruti Nanajkar with a convincing 6-2, 6-1 win.

Local player Shreya Pathare showcased her skills as she outplayed the fifth-seeded Apeksha Kandadii of Telangana with a score of 6-1, 6-4. Another local talent, Swarnika Roy, secured a dominant 6-3, 6-0 victory over the winner of the Asian Under 16 event at Aurangabad and the sixth-seeded Parthsarathi Mundhe. In a one-sided affair, unseeded Dhruvi Adyanthaya blanked the seventh-seeded Arya Borkar with a score of 6-0, 6-0, earning her place in the last eight stage.
