Unveiling Maharashtra’s Buddhist Legacy: International Conference Marks India’s Diamond Jubilee

Pune, India – As India celebrates its Diamond Jubilee of Independence, a significant exploration into the Buddhist Heritage of Maharashtra is set to unfold at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU). Organized jointly by the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums, Government of Maharashtra, and the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies at SPPU, the International Conference is scheduled to take place at the Namdev Hall from January 18th to 20th, 2024, from 10 am to 6 pm.

The primary objective of the conference is to delve into the profound Buddhist heritage of Maharashtra, shedding light on its pivotal role in disseminating Buddhist philosophies among the people. Furthermore, the conference will provide a platform for scholars to discuss policies and initiatives aimed at the conservation and preservation of Maharashtra’s Buddhist Heritage, with a focus on fostering sustainable tourism growth.

The conference boasts the participation of around 6 international and 19 national scholars of eminence who are slated to present their research papers. This gathering of scholarly minds aims to significantly contribute to unraveling the rich tapestry of Maharashtra’s Buddhist history, showcasing its influence on the propagation of Buddhist philosophies.
