Unsafe Roads and Closed Exits: Pashan-Sus Bridge in Pune Sparks Concerns and Accidents

The Pashan-Sus bridge and the approach road connecting it to the Pune-Mumbai highway have become a hotspot for accidents and frustrations among citizens for the past year and a half. Locals attribute the frequent accidents to erratic driving on the incomplete road, coupled with the closure of the right-side exit at the Pashan-Sus bridge.

Residents in the area express their concerns, emphasizing the need for a solution that addresses the inconvenience caused by the closure. Amit Kasar, a Sus Road resident, suggests alternatives, stating, “Instead of closing, you can have speed breakers/signals on the bridge, which will solve the problem. Inconvenience should be considered. The solution should be feasible.”

Amit Kasar’s sentiments are echoed by Anuja Bali, a member of the Pashan-Sus Traffic Management Group, who emphasizes the broader impact on citizens beyond the immediate area. Bali stresses the need for education on responsible driving and calls for penalties for wrong-side drivers who contribute to daily accidents.

The closed right turn, leading to the highway, forces motorists to take a detour, adding significant travel time and inconvenience. Bali asserts that the re-opening of the right turn is a simple yet effective solution to alleviate the ongoing issues.

Ajaykumar Wayse, Executive Engineer at PMC, provides reassurance, stating that the work on the approach road is nearing completion. He assures that within 15 days, the remaining tarring work will be finished, making the approach road fully operational.

As the Pashan-Sus area grapples with the aftermath of frequent accidents, residents and commuters are hopeful that the impending completion of the approach road will bring relief to the community.
