Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Commends Pune’s Knowledge Hub Status at Gokhale Institute’s 29th Convocation

The Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, a beacon of academic excellence, hosted its 29th Convocation with great enthusiasm and accomplishment. The occasion brought together an august assembly of renowned personalities, dignitaries, and scholars, creating an atmosphere of intellectual celebration.

Union Cabinet Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, responsible for Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, graced the event as the Chief Guest. In his address, he bestowed Pune with the title of a “melting pot of ideas and knowledge,” emphasizing the city’s pivotal role in shaping a knowledge-centric 21st century. He commended the Institute’s invaluable contributions to economic, agricultural, and financial policies, recognizing its role in addressing critical issues. Mr. Pradhan extended his congratulations to the graduating class, who carry forward the legacy of Gokhale’s vision and are the first products of the New Education Policy.

Mr. Pradhan shared his vision, stating, “In the next 25 years, India will be THE happening place, and it will all happen because of you guys.” He urged young minds to focus not only on economic growth but also on qualitative economic growth, which he deemed a shared responsibility between institutions like Gokhale and the country’s youth. He concluded by expressing his belief that when young people ideate and innovate, remarkable transformations take place.

Dr. Ajit Ranade, Vice Chancellor of the Institute, presided over the ceremony, reaffirming the Institute’s dedication to academic excellence and holistic development. In his opening remarks, he called upon students and teachers to collectively channel their thoughts and ideas towards resolving conflicts, fostering unity, and generating positive change.

The Convocation unfolded in the Kale Memorial Hall, situated within the Library Building, symbolizing the heart of the Institute. Over 300 students proudly received their degrees, marking a momentous occasion for both the Institute and its graduates.

The presence of Chandrakant Patil, Maharashtra State’s Minister of Higher and Technical Education, added further prestige to the event. He acknowledged the Institute’s global eminence and its role in addressing critical issues faced by the state, including farmer concerns that reached the Supreme Court, thanks to research conducted by the Gokhale Institute.

Trustees of the Servants of India Society, Secretary Milind Deshmukh and Trustee Ramakant Lenka, graced the occasion with their esteemed presence.

A highlight of the event was the public release of the highly anticipated book, ‘Chronicles of an Academic Citadel,’ co-authored by the distinguished Prof Naseeb Benjamin and Prof Prabhash N. Rath.

Colonel Kapil Jodh, Registrar of Gokhale Institute, extended heartfelt thanks to all attendees, participants, and supporters, expressing gratitude for their contributions to the resounding success of the Convocation.
