Pune, August 14, 2023: In a heart-wrenching incident that occurred on Monday, yet another accident on the Katraj-Kondhwa road has claimed the life of a 60-year-old individual. The victim, identified as Vishnu Hanuman Hanamayya Handriki, tragically lost his life after being struck by a vehicle while walking along the road. The accident took place between the Pisoli and Khadi Machine road stretch. Despite the promptness of responders, Handriki succumbed to his injuries on the spot. Shockingly, the driver of the vehicle responsible for the accident fled the scene without stopping to render aid.
This unfortunate event marks the second fatality involving pedestrians on the Katraj-Kondhwa road within a span of two days. Just the day prior, a 70-year-old woman met a similar fate when she was hit by a truck near Maulinagar Chowk. The road itself is a heavily traveled bypass route in Pune, with a significant number of heavy vehicles using it to connect to the Pune-Bengaluru Highway near Narhe, making it prone to accidents.
Tragically, this is not an isolated incident on the Katraj-Kondhwa road. Recently, a major accident occurred on the same road, resulting in the loss of one life and leaving seven others injured. In this incident, a truck transporting cement pipes collided with multiple vehicles, including a school bus. The frequency of accidents on this road has led local leaders and politicians to call for urgent action to address the safety concerns associated with it.
