Tragic Fatality as Labourer Falls During Warehouse Renovation; Contractor and Supervisor Face Negligence Charges

Pune, August 5th, 2023: A heart-wrenching incident unfolded in the Wagholi area, as a 47-year-old labourer lost his life tragically while engaged in renovation work on the roof of a warehouse. The aftermath of the incident has led to the booking of the contractor and supervisor responsible for the work. The deceased’s brother lodged a complaint, asserting that inadequate safety measures were provided to the workers during the task.

The unfortunate event occurred on July 17th around 12:20 pm, as the labourer and his colleagues carried out their tasks at the warehouse site in Wagholi. The complainant alleged that his brother and fellow labourers were not equipped with essential safety gear such as safety belts, helmets, and protective nets, despite the awareness of the potential dangers associated with working at elevated heights.

Subsequent to the incident, an Accidental Death Report (ADR) was filed, initiating a preliminary investigation. However, upon closer scrutiny, glaring safety lapses came to light. This revelation prompted the authorities to take action. Consequently, an FIR was lodged against the contractor and supervisor on Friday.

The case has been registered at Loni Kand Police Station under sections 304 (a) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which pertain to causing death due to negligence. As the investigation delves into the details of the incident, efforts are aimed at establishing the extent of negligence that contributed to this unfortunate loss of life.
