Tragic End to Employment: Pune Driver Takes His Own Life Amid Alleged Workplace Bullying

In a distressing incident that unfolded on November 30th (Thursday), a video surfaced depicting Tohid Mehmood Shaikh announcing his decision to end his life from a construction site in Kausar Baug, Kondhwa. Shaikh, a driver and supervisor, had reportedly been driven to this tragic end due to alleged bullying and harassment by his employer, Arbaz Wali Mohammad Memon.

According to Santosh Sonawane, Senior Police Inspector at Kondhwa Police Station, the victim had worked for Memon for four years. An altercation ensued on November 29th over Shaikh’s punctuality, leading to heightened tensions. Upset that the disagreement had extended to his personal life, Shaikh took the extreme step by jumping from the 6th floor of the construction site.

Senior Police Inspector Santosh Sonawane stated that the preliminary investigation has been concluded, and the process of filing a case under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) is underway.

The video posted by Shaikh prior to his suicide detailed alleged mental torture and abuse by Memon and others for a minor mistake involving Rs 500. Shaikh claimed that the abuse escalated to threats on his life, with the perpetrators purportedly stating that the police would not entertain any complaints against them.

Dr. Keshav Kshirsagar, President of the Baghtoy Rickshawala Association, Pune, revealed that Shaikh had shared the video on a local group before taking his life. Shockingly, the video was deleted from Shaikh’s mobile after the incident, but the Association retained a copy forwarded to other groups. Dr. Kshirsagar expressed the Association’s commitment to ensuring justice for Shaikh.

The grieving family of Tohid Shaikh visited the Kondhwa Police Station on November 30th, pleading for swift action against the accused and seeking compensation.
