23rd August 2023: A shocking and heart-wrenching incident unfolded around 5 pm at Rakshak Chowk, where a group of friends sharing a vehicle witnessed the tragic shooting and subsequent death of one of their companions. Within an impressively quick two-hour timeframe, the Pimpri Chinchwad Police successfully apprehended two suspects linked to the incident.
The victim has been identified as Sagar Shinde, a resident of old Sangvi. One of the detained suspects is Yogesh Jagtap.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Vishal Hire provided insights into the unfolding events. Sagar Shinde and the accused Yogesh Jagtap arrived at Rakshak Chowk in a vehicle and engaged in a heated argument while inside. The altercation took a fatal turn when the accused produced a pistol and shot Sagar, leading to his untimely demise. This unfortunate incident occurred near the premises of Bharat Electronics Limited on the Aundh-Ravet BRT route.
Following the shooting, the suspects left the vehicle and intercepted a passing motorcyclist at Rakshak Chowk. They forcibly took possession of the motorcycle before fleeing from the scene.
Upon receiving reports of the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. Kakasaheb Dole, along with senior police officials, including Assistant Commissioner of Police Vishal Hire, promptly converged at the scene. The presence of a spent cartridge at the location was documented as evidence.
Commissioner of Police Vinay Kumar Choubey promptly instructed the mobilization of crime branch teams to initiate a thorough investigation into the matter.
Remarkably, the police managed to apprehend Yogesh Jagtap within a remarkably short span of two hours. As of now, the motive behind this tragic act remains unclear, prompting a comprehensive police inquiry to ascertain the underlying reasons.
It has also come to light that the victim, Sagar Shinde, had previously been involved in a murder case registered in 2013 at Chatushringi police station. The case pertains to the murder of a young man named Somnath Vare.
