Tragedy Strikes as Student Drowns in Kunda Mala, Another Missing

A somber incident unfolded near Talegaon Dabhade, as a 17-year-old junior college student lost his life to drowning while attempting to swim in the Indrayani river waters at Kunda Mala, a popular monsoon destination. Tragically, one of his friends also remains missing after the ill-fated swim.

Rescue Efforts Underway:

The tragic incident prompted swift action from rescue teams, including Wanyajeev Rakshak Maval and Shivdurga Mitra Lonavla. As of Thursday evening, one of the two students has been located by the dedicated rescue teams. Despite their best efforts, the search for the missing student will continue into the following day.

Challenging Circumstances:

According to Senior Inspector Saytawan Mane of the Talegaon Dabhade police, the incident occurred during a visit by a group of eight students from a junior college in Chinchwad. Early in the morning, around 8:30 am, four of the students ventured into the waters of the Indrayani river at Kunda Mala. Tragedy struck when all four students found themselves in distress while in the water. Two of the students managed to reach the riverbanks, but the other two were unable to escape the perilous situation.

Intensive Search Efforts:

The rescue team worked tirelessly throughout the day to locate the missing students. By 5:30 pm, they succeeded in finding one of the students. The victims were identified as hailing from the Jadhavwadi area in Chikhali, underscoring the local nature of the tragedy.

This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with water bodies during the monsoon season. Authorities have been actively urging citizens to exercise caution while visiting tourist spots near catchment areas and rivers.
