Traffic Modifications Implemented in Shivaji Nagar Amid Pune Metro Construction

Pune city braces for significant traffic alterations set to commence on May 4, as girder lathing work near Simla Office Chowk in the Shivaji Nagar area kicks off. These modifications aim to address persistent traffic congestion issues plaguing the city, requiring commuters to plan their routes meticulously and comply with the revised traffic regulations to minimize inconvenience.

  1. Objective: The primary goal of the modifications is to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance the overall traffic flow in Pune, particularly in the Shivaji Nagar area, where construction activities for the Pune Metro are underway.
  2. Route Modifications: Several key modifications will come into effect:
    • The route from Veer Chafekar Chowk to N.T.Wadi K.B. Joshi Marg Chowk will become a one-way street for all vehicles.
    • The road entry from Veer Chafekar Flyover to Shimla Office Chowk will be closed.
    • The road connecting Veer Chafekar Chowk to Simla Office Chowk via Fergusson College Road will be closed.
    • The entrance from Nata Wadi Chowk to Chafekar Chowk will be closed.
    • The entry from Barve Chowk to Shimla Office Chowk to Shivajinagar Railway Station will be closed.
    • Access from Shivajinagar Railway Station ST stand circle to the wadi will be closed.
    • Vehicles traveling from Shimla Chowk to Pune University L.I.C. Chafekar flyover should utilize the side route.
  3. No-parking Zones: No-parking zones will be enforced for all vehicle types on Veer Chafekar Chowk to N.T.Wadi Chowk to Shimla Office Road, ensuring smooth traffic flow along the designated routes.
  4. Mitigating Inconvenience: While these modifications may initially inconvenience commuters, they are implemented with the long-term goal of enhancing Pune’s transportation infrastructure and ensuring smoother traffic movement across the city.
