Pune: Long queues were seen on Tuesday on Ahmednagar-Kalyan highway in Madh, Karnajale Malshej Ghat areas within the limits of Junnar taluka after two trucks overturned in two separate incidents. Ten police personnel from the Otur Police streamlined traffic. This was revealed by API Sanchin Kandge.
According to details given by the police, a truck heading towards Ahmednagar from Kalyan turned turtle in a paddy field at a pass near Madh. However, no one was hurt in the accident. Since a roadside portion of the road caved in, it disrupted traffic on the highway. Then, another truck heading towards Kalyan overturned some distance away from this spot. No one was hurt in the incident.
These two incidents caused heavy traffic jams. Thousands of vehicles ply on the Ahmednagar-Kalyan highway daily. Moreover, there was a big rush in the ghat section due to the rainy season. This led to woes for all commuters.
After learning about the incident, a team comprising 10 members from the police and home guard led by API Sachin Kandge of Otur Police Station cleared one lane for traffic. A truck was removed with the help of a crane. Traffic was being cleared till late night in the area by the Otur Police. Vehicles were plying in one lane in the ghat section.
