Ticketless Travellers Beware: Pune Division’s ₹1.75 Crore Sting in February

In a robust crackdown during February 2024, the Pune Division successfully collected ₹1.75 crore in fines from passengers found violating ticketing regulations, travelling irregularly, or carrying unbooked luggage. The stringent enforcement drive targeted various infractions, highlighting the railway authorities’ commitment to maintaining order and ensuring compliance with travel regulations.

A significant number of 22,182 passengers were apprehended for travelling without tickets, resulting in the recovery of ₹1.75 crore in fines. Additionally, 8,392 passengers faced penalties amounting to ₹49.98 lakh for irregular travel practices. The authorities also imposed fines totaling ₹18,250 on 165 passengers for carrying unbooked luggage during their travel.

This enforcement operation was conducted under the proactive guidance of Divisional Railway Manager Indu Dubey. The collaborative effort involved Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Milind Hirve and the dedicated participation of ticket-checking inspectors and Railway Protection Force personnel.

Railway authorities are actively conducting regular ticket checks, and passengers are strongly advised to ensure they travel with valid tickets. Non-compliance with ticketing regulations may result in fines under the Railway Act, and failure to pay fines could lead to legal consequences, including imprisonment.
