Technical Power Disruption Temporarily Affects Pune Metro Service

Pune, 16th August 2023: The smooth functioning of the Pune Metro was temporarily disrupted as a result of a technical power interruption on Monday evening (August 14). The interruption, which lasted for approximately 20 minutes, occurred on the Metro route between Vanaz and Ruby Hall stations. Notably, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) clarified that they were not involved in or responsible for this incident and had no role in the power supply to the Pune Metro.

The power supply for the Pune Metro is managed by the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL) through a dedicated 132 kV substation. As explained by senior officials from MSETCL, the evening of Monday saw technical issues emerging within the power distribution system at the Range Hills Extra High Voltage 132 kV substation. However, it was a separate technical glitch within the internal power distribution system of the Pune Metro itself that led to the disruption in metro services for the mentioned duration.

The incident underscores the intricacies of managing the power supply for the metro system and the potential challenges that can arise due to technical faults. In this case, the power disruption was isolated to the Pune Metro’s internal distribution system, and there was no connection between the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited and the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited regarding this particular occurrence.
