Tackling Drone Intrusions: Pune Rural Police’s Bid for Anti-Drone Tools

In response to increasing nighttime drone activity causing concern among residents in rural areas of Pune, the Pune Rural Police are taking proactive steps to address the issue. With reports of drones flying at night circulating widely on social media, the police are submitting a proposal to the Pune District Planning Committee to acquire “anti-drone guns.”

Residents in various parts of Pune district, particularly in the eastern areas, have reported sightings of drones flying at night, sparking unease among the local population. The Khalad area of Purandar has also witnessed such sightings in recent weeks, adding to the growing anxiety.

To effectively tackle this situation, the Pune Rural Police have undergone specialized training conducted by experts on the operation of “anti-drone guns.” These tools are designed to disable unauthorized drones and prevent them from operating illegally in the region. Pune Rural SP Pankaj Deshmukh emphasized that the training aims to empower the police to take swift action against errant drones.

The proposal to procure two anti-drone guns from a private company will be formally presented to the Pune District Planning Committee. Through this initiative, the police aim to enhance their capabilities in addressing the growing threat posed by nighttime drone activities.

While investigating these incidents, the police have urged citizens to refrain from spreading unverified information about the drones. By fostering collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the community, the Pune Rural Police seek to ensure the safety and security of residents in the region amidst evolving technological challenges.
