Swargate Traffic Woes to Ease by April 2024: Subway Linking Metro and MSRTC Bus Stand Nearing Completion

In a bid to alleviate the daily commuter traffic congestion at Swargate Junction (Jedhe Chowk), a subway connecting the MSRTC bus terminus on Satara Road with the Metro station is expected to be completed by April 2024. The underground station, currently under construction by Maha Metro, aims to provide a seamless connection for travelers navigating through the busy Swargate area.

Maha Metro officials have indicated that the subway, measuring 50 meters in length, is nearing completion and will soon be accessible to the public. The project is a collaborative effort between MSRTC and Maha Metro, with entry/exit points strategically placed at the MSRTC terminus and the concourse of the Metro station. Barricades have been installed on Satara Road outside the bus terminal to facilitate ongoing construction.

The subway, equipped with escalators and staircases, is designed to enhance pedestrian safety and streamline traffic flow. Commuters, especially those disembarking from the MSRTC bus stand, currently face challenges navigating through the congested traffic at Swargate Junction. The completion of the subway is eagerly anticipated to address these issues.

Key features of the subway include:

  1. Length of 50 meters
  2. Connects Metro station with MSRTC bus terminal
  3. Escalators and staircase for accessibility
  4. Expected completion within two months

While commuters eagerly await the subway’s opening, concerns have been raised about the chaotic conditions in the construction zone. Careless parking of auto-rickshaws, drivers going in the wrong direction, private vehicles stopping at the chowk, and encroachment on footpaths have added to the challenges faced by pedestrians and commuters.

Maha Metro officials assure that the barricades, currently in place, will be removed as soon as the work is completed in specific areas. They are actively coordinating with MSRTC to expedite the project’s conclusion. Importantly, the subway will benefit not only Metro commuters but also non-Metro travelers, eliminating the need for a Metro ticket to access the subway.
