Swargate-Katraj Underground Metro Proposal Inches Closer to Reality, Heads for Central Approval

The prospect of an underground metro connecting Swargate to Katraj in Pune has taken a significant step forward as Minister Uday Samant announced the submission of the proposal to the Central Government for approval. Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, Minister Samant revealed that the proposal, which holds the potential to redefine Pune’s metro connectivity, awaits the nod from the Cabinet before progressing to the next stage.

The announcement came in response to a query raised by Bhimrao Tapkir, MLA from the Khadakwasla constituency, concerning the expansion of stations in Pune Metro Phase 1 and 2.

Upon submission of the Swargate to Katraj Metro proposal to the Central Government, the state government will actively pursue and endorse its approval. Simultaneously, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Khadakwasla to Khadari metro line spanning 25.65 km has been presented to the state government and is poised for a similar journey to the central level following Cabinet approval.

An additional request has been made for the last station of this metro line to extend up to the Khadakwasla dam, a proposal that has undergone joint inspection. The submission, inclusive of the feasibility report, is now with the government, and Minister Uday Samant conveyed that the state government will make a decision on this proposal in due course.

As Pune envisions a future marked by efficient and expansive metro connectivity, the Swargate-Katraj underground metro proposal holds promise for enhanced transportation and urban development in the city.
