Surgeon’s Transfer Proposal Sparks Controversy in Pune District Hospital

The Pune district hospital finds itself embroiled in controversy as the proposal for the transfer of Additional Civil Surgeon Dr. Varsha Doiphode surfaces amidst allegations of negligence and irregularities in her duties, disrupting hospital operations.

Dr. Doiphode’s alleged misconduct has sparked concern among hospital authorities, leading to the recommendation for her transfer due to various charges of negligence and mismanagement impacting the hospital’s functioning.

Dr. RB Pawar, Deputy Director of Health Services (DDHS), confirmed the proposal, citing Dr. Doiphode’s culpability in numerous irregularities detrimental to hospital operations.

According to Dr. Pawar, Dr. Doiphode’s absence during emergency care services, despite her administrative responsibilities, has severely affected patient care. Additionally, her purported engagement in prolonged gossip sessions during work hours has disrupted hospital activities, including the delay in patient treatments and compromised hygiene standards.

Further investigations revealed instances where pregnant women in distress were allegedly redirected to other hospitals, depriving them of timely maternity care under Dr. Doiphode’s supervision. Moreover, allegations suggest her involvement in intimidating individuals questioning her conduct, utilizing lower-ranked staff for coercive purposes.

Despite her position as a surgeon, Dr. Doiphode reportedly abstained from performing surgeries during her tenure, raising concerns about her commitment to patient care.

Dr. Pawar emphasized the gravity of these allegations, underscoring the need for Dr. Doiphode’s transfer, subject to the approval of the state health director.
