SPPU Cracks Down on Unauthorized Hostel Stay: Strict Measures Against Illegal Occupants

Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) is set to implement rigorous measures against individuals residing illegally in the university hostels, without proper admission or identification. The move aims to safeguard the rightful accommodation of students officially enrolled at the university and eliminate unauthorized occupancy.

Rahul Sasane, a PhD student and student leader at SPPU, emphasized the importance of ensuring hostel accommodation exclusively for students officially admitted to the university. He stated, “No student should be deprived of education due to a lack of hostel. Along with this, if persons, who are not admitted to any department of the university, are living in the university hostels, action should be taken against them. That means there will be no injustice to the students who have officially taken admission.”

As per an SPPU letter accessed by Pune Pulse, several points have been outlined to regulate and address the issue of illegal occupancy in university hostels:

  • Identification of Unauthorized Occupants:
    • People living illegally or without admission in the hostels on the university premises will be identified and subjected to necessary actions.
  • Security Arrangements:
    • The security department, along with security personnel of the university and MSF, will carry out actions against illegal occupants.
    • The rector of the respective hostel will be present during the action, maintaining a list of students in the allotted rooms.
    • Adequate security planning with at least two days’ notice to the security department will be ensured.
  • Coordination with Law Enforcement:
    • The Commissioner of Police, Pune, has assured support from the police station staff during such actions if prior notice is provided.
  • Past Notifications:
    • The university administration has previously informed about taking appropriate action against students staying illegally or without permission in the hostel, reporting the incidents to the police station.

Considering the gravity of the matter, the university administration urges prompt and appropriate action to ensure a fair and secure living environment for officially admitted students.
