Solving Civic Woes: Pune Appoints Officers for Merged PMC Villages

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken a proactive step to address various civic issues by appointing coordination officers for the recently merged villages. This move aims to improve the quality of life for residents and provide essential services they’ve long awaited.

Coordination Officers for Merged Villages In response to ongoing complaints from residents of the 23 villages merged with the PMC, PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar has appointed coordination officers. These officers are tasked with overseeing and resolving various civic issues that have plagued the merged villages.

Official Order Issued The appointment of coordination officers was formalized through an official order issued by the PMC Commissioner on Tuesday. This decision comes in light of complaints by citizens who, despite paying taxes to the civic body, had been facing a lack of basic amenities.

Committee Formation Put on Hold It’s worth noting that the state government had initially announced the formation of a committee to address developmental issues in these villages. However, the formation of the committee was delayed following allegations from local politicians.

Challenges Faced by Merged Villages In 2023, 23 villages were merged with the Pune Municipal Corporation, making it the geographically largest municipal corporation in the country. Despite this expansion, the merged villages continued to grapple with fundamental issues, including concerns about roads, water supply, and sanitation. Local residents consistently brought these problems to the attention of the civic body. While the municipal corporation officials were aware of the issues, they were awaiting the necessary funds for development.
