Sikandar Sheikh’s Grand Triumph: Maharashtra Kesari 2023-24 Crowned in Phulgaon Showdown

Phulgaon – In a thrilling finale at the 66th Maharashtra Kesari 2023-24, held in Phulgaon, Pune, Sikandar Sheikh from Washim emerged victorious, securing the prestigious title by defeating defending champion Shivraj Rakshe. Sikandar Sheikh, competing in the soil category, showcased a spectacular comeback from his previous defeat in the Maharashtra Kesari competition, earning himself the title and the honor of a silver mace.

The competition, which drew wrestling enthusiasts from across the state, witnessed intense bouts and remarkable performances. In the semi-final of the Gadi section, Shivraj Rakshe secured his spot in the final by defeating Harshad Kokate. On the other side of the ring, Sikandar Sheikh paved his way to the final with a decisive 10-0 victory over Sandeep Mote in the soil category.

Sikandar Sheikh’s victory this year is a significant turnaround from the disappointment he faced in the semi-finals of the previous Maharashtra Kesari tournament. The 66th edition of the competition saw the participation of 42 teams from 36 districts and 6 municipal corporations. Each wrestling team consisted of 20 wrestlers, with 10 from the mat section and 10 from the soil section, accompanied by 2 wrestling guides and 1 team manager.

The Maharashtra Kesari competition continues to be a platform for fierce competition and the showcasing of exceptional talent in the field of traditional Indian wrestling. Congratulations to Sikandar Sheikh on his well-deserved victory.
