In a deeply distressing incident that has sent shockwaves through Pune, a case has been registered by the Pune Government Railway Police (GRP) against Railway Protection Force (RPF) Head Constable Anil Pawar, accusing him of confining and raping a minor girl. The charges filed include sections 342, 450, 384, 376, 376(2)(N), 506, and 34(c) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with sections 4, 6, and 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at GRP Thana Pune.
This alarming case came to light on October 30, 2023, when the GRP Pune received information regarding the involvement of HC Anil Pawar in the alleged harassment and rape of a 17-year-old girl from Chattisgarh. The victim had reportedly fled from her home with her boyfriend on September 9, 2023, arriving at Pune station on September 12, 2023.
It is alleged that HC Anil Pawar contacted the young couple and took them to the premises of the NGO named “Siddharth Multipurpose Society” in the Tadiwala Road area, ostensibly to provide rescue and assistance. Shockingly, it is reported that Anil Pawar, in collaboration with an accomplice named Kamlesh Tiwari, unlawfully confined and raped the minor girl from September 12, 2023, to September 17, 2023.
The Siddharth Multipurpose Society, an NGO that was operating unlawfully from a Railway quarter in the Tadiwala Road area, has been discovered to be registered in the name of Anil Pawar’s brother-in-law.
The victim’s boyfriend allegedly paid Rs 6000 to HC Anil Pawar to secure the release of the girl to her parents. Due to the gravity of the allegations, the GRP has taken the immediate step of sealing the premises of the NGO.
Ramdas Bhise, the divisional commercial manager and PRO of Pune rail division, stated, “HC Anil Pawar has been suspended. The in-charge Inspector is also under suspension for poor supervision.”
In order to investigate any procedural lapses and the involvement of other staff members, Assistant Security Commissioner PK Das has been appointed to conduct a further inquiry. He is also tasked with verifying the background and activities of the NGO, where this heinous crime took place.
