Shining a Light on Safety: Pune Residents Demand Street Lights in Anandvan Parisar

In a display of unified advocacy, residents of Anandvan Parisar in Pune’s NIBM Annexe Area organized a candlelight protest on the evening of March 21, 2024, demanding the urgent installation of street lights along the stretch from Raheja Circle to Dorabjee Mall road. The protest specifically addressed the need for illumination in front of Raheja Vistas Phases 1 and 2, as well as Raheja Reserve Societies.

Led by Rohan Gaikwad, the chief of the MNS in the NIBM Kondhwa Pune area, and Tara Singh, President of APRF (A Forum of 31 Societies of Cloud 9, Raheja Vistas & NIBM Annexe Area Pune), the demonstration attracted participants from diverse backgrounds, including senior citizens, women, retired defense personnel, and children.

The protest shed light on the enduring struggle for essential civic amenities, with Tara Singh recalling a previous demonstration organized by APRF residents in March 2022. During that event, residents addressed a range of issues, including the Sunshree Anandvan slope approach road, access to PMC drinking water, drainage infrastructure, STP Plant, and law enforcement. Following the protest, significant strides were made, including road improvements, installation of speed breakers, and enhanced lighting at Raheja Traffic Circle.

Amidst the candlelight protest, leaders representing various societies within the area voiced their concerns. Tara Singh, in particular, underscored the community’s frustration and issued a three-day ultimatum to the PMC. Failure to address residents’ demands within this timeframe will result in further protests.

The demonstration symbolizes a collective plea from the residents of Anandvan Parisar for improved safety measures and infrastructure in their neighborhood.
