Pune, August 12, 2023: An unfortunate incident unfolded at the Mula Mutha River Rejuvenation Project site in Yerawada, where a security guard was assaulted by a group of thieves attempting to steal iron pipes from the ongoing construction site. The incident resulted in injuries to the security guard, identified as Vinod Waghambare (34), a resident of Pimpri Chinchwad.
According to the complaint lodged with the local police, Vinod was assigned the night duty at the immersion point in Yerawada. In the early hours of Friday, around 5:30 am, he noticed two suspicious individuals attempting to steal iron pipes from the project site. Showing remarkable courage, Vinod tried to intervene and prevent the theft. However, instead of backing down, the thieves turned hostile and began to threaten him. Subsequently, they called in two more accomplices to the scene.
The situation escalated rapidly as the four accused individuals reportedly attacked Vinod with bamboo sticks, inflicting injuries upon him. The security guard’s efforts to thwart the theft and maintain security at the site led to his unfortunate assault.
Local law enforcement swiftly responded to the incident, registering a case at the Yerawada Police Station under sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The case is under active investigation, with the authorities working to identify and apprehend the four unidentified assailants.
