A distressing case has come to light in Pune, as a woman has filed a complaint with the city police, alleging that she was deceived by two individuals who promised her a role in a web series purportedly set to be filmed in Hyderabad. The victim was coerced into paying Rs 16,560 for an air ticket to facilitate her travel between Pune and Hyderabad for the purpose of signing an agreement for the role.
Regrettably, the promised air ticket was never booked, and the victim’s attempts to reach out to the alleged culprits through calls and messages went unanswered. Frustrated by this betrayal, she sought recourse with the police, leading to the initiation of an investigation into the matter.
According to the police, the woman, a resident of Sinhagad Road, initially came into contact with an individual claiming to be the director of a web series titled ‘Barish’ through a WhatsApp group. This person solicited photographs and video clips for an audition from the aspiring actress. Subsequently, another individual, purportedly the executive director of the web series, contacted her and instructed her to travel to Hyderabad to finalize the agreement. To facilitate her journey, she was asked to purchase air tickets, for which she was provided a promotional code for a discount. However, when the code failed to work, she was coerced into transferring Rs 16,560, under the guise that the ticket would be booked by their official partner.
To her dismay, the promised ticket was never booked, and the individuals ceased all communication. Realizing that she had fallen victim to a scam, the woman promptly reported the incident to the police. A case has been registered at the Sinhagad Road Police Station, and further investigations are currently underway to apprehend the culprits responsible for this fraudulent act.
