In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded near Saswad on a fateful Monday evening, an auto rickshaw carrying five passengers careened into a well, resulting in a devastating outcome. The tragic episode occurred as a newlywed couple, accompanied by their family, embarked on a pilgrimage to the revered Jejuri temple. Regrettably, three individuals perished in the accident, while two were miraculously rescued.
The distressing incident transpired around 8 pm on Saturday evening, near Borawake Mala along the Saswad-Jejuri Palkhi road. Preliminary investigations by law enforcement suggest that the auto rickshaw driver was operating the vehicle at a high speed and lost control, ultimately leading to the calamitous plunge.
Tragically, the newly married couple, hailing from Pune’s Dhayari area, met their untimely demise, along with one additional passenger. The couple had solemnized their union just two days prior and had embarked on a spiritual journey, visiting various temples to seek divine blessings.
The grim episode came to light when villagers, on their morning stroll, heard cries for help emanating from the depths of the well. Swift action was taken as local authorities, including the police and rescue teams, were immediately summoned to the scene. The deployment of a crane was deemed necessary to extricate the submerged auto rickshaw from the well, aiding in the recovery efforts.
