Sarasbaug Chowpatty’s Culinary Makeover: PMC’s Ambitious Investment in Multi-Level Food Plaza

In a groundbreaking move, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has allocated a budget of approximately Rs 8 crore for the development of a two-storey food plaza at Sarasbaug Chowpatty, taking cues from the prosperous model established in Gurgaon.

To gather valuable insights into functionality, popularity, and overall impact, officials from the PMC’s encroachment department visited the Cyber Plaza in Gurgaon. The goal is to ensure that the proposed Khau Galli at Sarasbaug Chowpatty becomes a dynamic and well-received addition to Pune’s urban landscape.

As per the revised civic plan, the strategically positioned Khau Galli will reside between the boundary walls of Sarasbaug and Sanas ground. The comprehensive plan includes essential features to enhance the citizen experience, such as seating arrangements, beautification elements, and a small stage for artistic presentations. Notably, during operational hours, the road in front of the square, currently catering to traffic, will be temporarily closed, contributing to a safer and more enjoyable environment.

While the project plan nears its finalization, the administration has commenced feasibility tests for the two-storey design. The existing space accommodates 53 stalls, with considerations for potential vertical expansion. This expansion sparks considerations about increased income generation and its viability in covering maintenance and repair costs.

Diligently evaluating the financial implications and sustainability of a double-storey food plaza, the PMC engages in strategic decision-making. This involves a meticulous analysis of potential benefits, including additional revenue from expanded stall offerings. The generated revenue will play a pivotal role in ensuring ongoing maintenance and repair needs are adequately funded.
