RTO Pune Initiates Special Drive to Scrutinize School Transport Vehicles

The Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Pune has unveiled a comprehensive plan to crack down on vehicles employed for ferrying children to schools. A dedicated operation, spearheaded by RTO Pune, is set to identify and take strict measures against unlawfully operated vehicles within the city. The inspection will encompass various modes of transport used for school commuting, including mini-buses, vans, and auto-rickshaws.

RTO officials have earmarked approximately 5,000 such vehicles for inspection as part of this campaign. To execute this ambitious endeavor effectively, four specialized teams have been constituted, according to officials. This move comes in the wake of mounting concerns related to vehicles that operate without the necessary ‘school cab’ registration and often exceed permissible student passenger limits.

In recent days, the RTO has been inundated with complaints about such non-compliant vehicles. Instances have surfaced where these vehicles not only lack the appropriate registration but also flout regulations by carrying more students than legally allowed.

In response to these pressing issues, RTO authorities are urging vehicle owners to adhere to established norms. They emphasize the importance of securing a fitness certificate for their vehicles before deploying them for student transportation. Furthermore, RTO officials have issued stern warnings, cautioning that stringent actions will be taken against vehicles found in violation of these stipulated regulations.
