The tranquility of Sun Enclave Society in Pune has been disrupted by a broken divider along the riverside road, which has tragically morphed into a dumping ground for garbage, exacerbating pollution concerns and posing health hazards to residents. The deteriorating infrastructure has not only become an eyesore but also a breeding ground for unhygienic practices, including public urination.
Expressing their distress, Aditya Kudale, a resident of Sun Enclave Society, lamented the situation, “The broken divider has inadvertently provided access for vehicles to dump garbage directly into the riverbed, just a stone’s throw away from our homes. It’s disheartening to witness this disregard for our environment and community.”
Ketaki Viadya, another resident, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the need for urgent action, “The perpetual sight of garbage and the stench it emits are not only unpleasant but also a threat to our well-being. We implore the authorities to address this issue promptly for the sake of our collective health and sanity.”
Responding to the residents’ concerns, Sandeep Kadam, Deputy Commissioner, assured swift intervention, stating, “I will personally oversee the resolution of this matter and ensure that strict measures are implemented to deter public urination and enforce proper waste management protocols.”
However, it has come to light that Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) own garbage collection vehicle has been observed contributing to the problem by indiscriminately disposing of solid waste in the same area, raising questions about the efficacy of existing waste management practices.
Garbage disposal and the prevention of public urination are not merely matters of civic responsibility but fundamental pillars of environmental stewardship and public health. Effective waste management not only preserves the aesthetic integrity of our surroundings but also safeguards against the proliferation of diseases borne from pollution.
